My husband and I just bought our dream house and moved in a couple of months ago. Everything about the house and the location are exactly what we were looking for. We heard that the neighborhood culture was really great before we bought, but that turned out to be not exactly ideal for us. Everyone seems to be up in everyone else’s business. People just drop by each other’s houses without calling, they notice when you go places or have company over. I just feel suffocated, like I have a bunch of new friends I didn’t ask for or want. I’m afraid if I start pushing back, I’m going to get branded as the neighborhood curmudgeon. How do I put up some healthy boundaries without seeming unneighborly?
