Situation 805: “Is it wrong to ask people to help pay for a Super Bowl party”

I’m admittedly a tech geek, and word has gotten out among my friends about my 80-inch TV and sound room setup. Now, it’s become more than a little obvious that a couple dozen of my friends want my place to be party-central for the Super Bowl…and I have no issue with that. In fact, it would be kind of fun to show it all off. There is an issue, however, with the cost. When the idea was brought up that I play host, I said I’d be fine with it, but everyone who shows up will have to pay some money to help pay for it. I’m thinking thirty bucks each to do it right, with food, beer, liquor, and other things I think would be cool. Now, I’m getting backlash. Is it wrong to ask people to pony up and help pay for this? I didn’t think so, but apparently, I crossed some kind of invisible line here. (email your situation to: listeners@957thebeatfm.com)
