Situation 805: “My Superbowl party was a fail, and my cousins are mad at me.”

So Superbowl was a S*** show at my house! Everyone was doing great we were drinking, eating, same old Superbowl shenanigans. So I have a cousin that is a 49ers fan and I have a bunch of cousins that are raider fans. These 2 sets of cousins don’t know each other because one is from my moms side and the other is from my dad’s side. The issue started when my cousin that is a 49ers fan started asking one of my other cousin’s kid, he’s like 12 by the way, why he was a Raiders fan and continued to say if it was just because of his parents? He said he should be a 49ers fan instead. I think he was just trying to be funny and bust some chops. The problem is I think my other cousin took it personal and said “leave my kid alone, don’t tell him what team to root for.”  Problems escalated from there and a fight almost started because of this. My cousin that’s a raider fan decided to leave because I was defending my other cousin and they eventually both left because he also felt uncomfortable. Now my cousin that is a Raider fan doesn’t want to talk to me because I was defending my other cousin. What can I do to remedy the situation? Did I over step my boundary by trying to help?
