Situation 805: “My friends all picked me to talk someone out of doing stand up comedy”

stand-up-comedy

Hi Danger! Hi Loui!! A group of friends have somehow selected me to be the one to talk to a mutual friend of all of ours to end his dream of doing comedy. This guy, who will go nameless, thinks he has a plan to “end wokeness,” “stab political correctness,” and “shake up the comedy world” by becoming the next Andrew Dice Clay, or whatever other over-the-top comedian he’s comparing himself to. The problem is that we’ve all seen his material…and it’s not clever, funny, or insightful…it’s just mean, racist, angry, and seems to be therapy to help him get over being dumped by his girlfriend. They want me to talk him out of doing open mic nights. I say he should do it and learn the hard way that it’s not meant to be for him…but if it accidentally hits, so be it…but it won’t. It’s a cruel life lesson, but one I think he could benefit from. They say I’m being a bad friend…but I don’t see any of them stepping up, so screw ‘em. Is there another path I should be considering here? (email your situation to: listeners@957thebeatfm.com)
