SOCIAL MEDIA MAKES YOU SAD

Want to put a smile on your face? Stop looking for smiley faces on social media.

So a survey of people who spent an average of 61 minutes per day on social media, the more time they spent sharing, liking, tweeting, and hashtagging, the greater their risk of depression seemed to be.

Here are some possible reasons:

  • Seeing friends and “friends” share their coolest moments makes us feel inferior – and think our lives pale in comparison.
  • The more time we spend with our non-real-world friends, the more disconnected we feel from our flesh-and-blood friends, which leads to depression.
  • Competition with others to get the most friends, followers, or likes can lead to a big letdown if someone else edges us out.

We can also blame our friends for bumming us out: If we have a circle that shares angry political posts or sad stories.

Maybe people need to share more Cat video’s not drama updates??
