Situation 805: “My husband is sooo cheap it’s embarrassing!! I’m stuck and I need advice on…”

Good morning guys!! Hope you guys are doing great! Everyone at work loves listening to this segment including myself. My co-worker wrote in about a month ago and I wanted to send in my situation too. It’s actually kind of embarrassing to be honest. So I’ve been married to my 2nd husband for 4 years. We are both in our early 40’s. He’s a really nice guy, he’s very easy going, non-confrontational. He’s not much of a social guy, so when ever we get invited to go over to our neighbor’s house or social functions he usually doesn’t go. He just likes to stay home and be a homebody. I’m totally fine with that. But once in a while I like going out to have dinner with friends & co-workers with out him. I hate to say it like this but I’m embarrassed to be out with my husband!! I know that’s jacked up to say but my husband is soooooooo cheap! It’s fine when it’s just the 2 of us but not when we are with other people! He will do anything to save a few dollars. If we go out to eat he will bring his own soda or water bottle. He doesn’t tip. And if there’s any left overs he will put them in a to-go box even if they aren’t his left overs!! and then he re-uses the restaurant container until if falls apart and is no longer usable. If we are at a park or anywhere and he sees cans or bottles he picks them up to recycle. It’s embarrassing! It’s not like we are hurting for money. Financially we are far from rich but we are okay!! I’ve talked to him about this many times before and he just doesn’t care. He says he hates to waste anything. Well for my 42nd birthday I want to have a bbq at our house and invite a few friends and neighbors over but I am having anxiety just thinking about it! I want to organize the whole thing but I’m nervous on how he’s going to react to everyone using more than one cup or multiple napkins/silverware. Or if they throw away food they don’t finish etc. This will be the 1st time we have company over to eat. He promised me he wouldn’t do any of this weird stuff but I doubt he’s going to be able to keep his word. Should I go through with the party and see how it plays out or should I make other plans even if it’s with out him. I know I probably sound like a B but it’s my birthday, the one day out of the year I want to just want to do what I want and not have to worry about anything. Help.
